The San Nicolas Cultural Troupe (SNCT) dancers once again showed that they dominate the streets through their dancing prowess as they brought home awards for the municipality in three street dance competitions in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

On January 22, 2010, the group joined in the Vigan City’s Longganisa Street Dance competition and won the top awards for both high school and open categories. Seven contingents from different schools and agencies in the Ilocos Region participated in the high school category (16 years old and below) wherein the San Nicolas Cultural Troupe won first place. On the other hand, five participating teams competed in the open category where the SNCT placed second.

The Longganisa Festival is being celebrated in Vigan City to commemorate the anniversary of Vigan’s cityhood and its annual fiesta in honor of St. Paul. The street dancing dramatizes the process of making longganisa which has become one of the identities of the city.

The dancers brought home a total of P70,000.00 cash prize for both categories.

Meanwhile, during the 192nd foundation anniversary of the province of Ilocos Norte which was celebrated with the Ragrag-o Festival, the San Nicolas Cultural Troupe placed second in the street pageantry on February 4, 2010. The dance parade took center stage where all the festivals of the different municipalities of the province were showcased.

On February 10, 2010, the San Nicolas dancers placed second in the 2010 Laoag City Pamulinawen Street Pageantry wherein they displayed their winning moves to the tune of the “Agdamdamili” which dramatizes the process of “damili” making in the town as this is one of the main sources of livelihood in San Nicolas.

Cash prizes of P20,000.00 each from the Ragrag-o Festival and the Pamulinawen Street pageantry were brought home by the dancers.
